Ever wonder how to truly measure employee engagement? Our very own organizational development & training guru, Tim Sieck, recently wrote an article for the Cedar Rapids Gazette titled The Most Important Question You Can Ask Your Employees and shares his thoughts on you can do just that.
There are a few key takeaways from this article about employee satisfaction:
- Measure true employee engagement with conversations — not surveys. Although organizational surveys can be very effective in helping identify strengths and weaknesses across the entire organization, it does nothing to bolster the relationship between employee and manager.
- One critical question. You may talk to your employees all of the time. But have you asked them this critical question…what percent of your capabilities is this organization using? The power of this question is that it gives you a true measure of satisfaction and engagement. After all, employees want to work in a place where they can do the things they good at and interested in.
- Align talents, passions/interests with the needs of the organization. To truly have a career best, these three areas need to perfectly align. The questions above will get you, your employees, and the organization moving towards the best possible outcome for everyone.
